Hi! My name is Sara Marchessault – thanks for stopping by my website! I’ll try to keep this page as simple as possible.

What makes me qualified to give advice on College Success?

I was an average student in high school, making good grades, but not anything really outstanding. From the middle of my junior year through my senior year my parents were going through a divorce. The time I would have ideally spent learning about colleges and visiting schools I instead spent making sure my younger siblings were okay as we all adjusted to the drastic changes from the family life we were used to. So, I ended up starting out at Tallahassee Community College.

This decision turned out to be one of the best I would ever make.

At TCC I learned how to be a student. I learned how to speak out in class without being embarrassed, how to take great notes, how to write a paper, even how to effectively read a textbook. It was a turning point for me. My first semester I worked hard and earned 3 A’s and 1 B. I didn’t like the one B, so I decided I wouldn’t’ get anymore. And I didn’t. To this day, that is the only B on my college transcript.

Being a good student required a lot of focus. I had to stay on top of my schedule, keep up with due dates, continuously organize and re-organize, and manage my part-time job in addition to classes and eventually, a series of internships. In graduate school I experienced a similar level of commitment. The rewards were great. I graduated from my Masters program with a 4.0 in a field that has earned me a comfortable living.

Today I teach College Success at the same place I started school: Tallahassee Community College. I love working with students to show them how to improve their performance, how to determine what they need to be successful in the classroom. I started teaching this class as an adjunct in 2008 and joined the full-time faculty on the fall of 2010.

In addition to my education and experience of being a successful student, I am a former elementary teacher, preschool assistant director, training specialist, learning consultant for IBM, and certified life coach. I use my coaching expertise and years of experience in the workforce as I teach and work one-on-one with students. I am dedicated to helping students find the answers to who they are, what they want in life, and how to get it.

My private work also continues through my private practice. I work with clients on everything from college applications to resume writing as graduation approaches.

On a personal note, I live in Tallahassee with my husband and daughter. We love our life here and enjoy watching our daughter grow and thrive. We love to be outside and in my spare time, I read, write, or cook!
